Wind turbines.  Wind energy. Wind farms.

Sure see a lot about these things right now.  But who is right?  Or is there merit on both sides of the issue?

Noise. Shadow flicker. Deflated property values.

Funding for fire departments and education. Property owners’ land use rights.

Decommissioning.

Renewable energy.

The people against wind turbines and the Lee County Board have been grappling with this issue for ten years.  Meetings, committees, letters to the editor, paid advertisments, editorials.  Is there any middle-of-the-ground? This will always be a contentious issue, but are there some things both sides can agree on? All this head-butting leads only to stallling out the process.  Does it really effect the outcome or is it just like children hurling names at each other on the playground? Nobody wins. This isn’t going away.  Isn’t it time to work together to get this issue voted on and put on the books?  There is nothing that will make everyone happy, but the recommendations that are on the table look a whole lot better than what’s on the books right now.

So many times we read the local papers or hear the news and realize there are important facts or figures missing.  Frustration mounts as we realize we have no avenue to let people know these things.  Sadly, these are more often than not GOOD things.  Or relevant facts that would make a story at least more interesting . . . and at best something that makes the reader a little more hopeful that things aren’t all bad.

Most issues are more complex than a few columns in the newspaper and have more depth than a sound bite.  We all know that.  But wouldn’t  it be nice to have a way to fill in a few blanks?  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a place to share what Paul Harvey called, “The Rest of the Story”?

Well . . . here goes!  Now there is such a place.  If you have “insider information” that will clarify or add dimension to an issue that interests you or that effects our area . . .  community, Lee County, State of Illinois, or national . . .  have at it!

BUT this space is for FACTS!  Opinion is welcome, but should respectfully address issues in a concise manner.  (No profanity, please.)

So let’s see if a constructive exchange of thoughts and ideas can impact our little corner of the world.
